Seeping oil halted in Rancho Park; investigation underway

Both directions of Sepulveda Boulevard under the 10 Freeway and 405 interchanges in Rancho Park remained closed Tuesday while crews worked to contain oil that was coming out of the ground at a rate of 3-5 gallons a minute, authorities said. Calls about the incident, located in the 2800 block of South Sepulveda Boulevard, came in just before 6 p.m. Monday, according to a Los Angeles Fire Department news release. It wasn't until shortly before noon on Tuesday that the seepage stopped, officials told KTLA.Fire officials believe a water pipe burst as well, further complicating the issue.Fire crews used nearby soil to create dams in an attempt to contain the leaking oil from spilling into storm drains. Authorities estimated that around 1,000 gallons of oil made its way out of the ground. “Only about 20-40 gallons escaped into the storm drain before firefighters contained the rest in the immediate area,” LAFD said. PHOENIX (AP) — An Arizona Uber driver involved in the first death connected to a fully autonomous vehicle will be tried in June on a negligent homicide charge.Rafaela Vasquez, 49, previously had been scheduled for trial next month in the March 2018 crash that killed 49-year-old Elaine Herzberg as she walked a bicycle outside the lines of a crosswalk in Tempe, Arizona. Vasquez's trial was rescheduled during a brief hearing Tuesday.Vasquez, who has pleaded not guilty to the charge, told police Herzberg “came out of nowhere” and that she didn’t see her prior to the collision.Authorities say Vasquez was streaming the television show “The Voice” on a phone and looking downward in the moments before Uber’s Volvo XC-90 SUV collided with Herzberg. Three-Vehicle Collision on Lord Ellis Summit Left Two Women DeadHUMBOLDT COUNTY, CA (April 25, 2023) – Thursday afternoon, Derek McIntosh and Ryan Noland were involved in a deadly multi-vehicle collision on State Route 299.Officers responded to the incident shortly after 12:30 p.m. along SR-299, west of Lord Ellis Summit between Blue Lake and Willow Creek.Upon arrival, CHP Officers learned that an eastbound gray 2019 Hyundai Tucson collided head-on with a westbound Ford F-550.Subsequently, the collision sent the Hyundai colliding with a Kenworth semi-truck trailer going eastbound.The two women occupying the Hyundai, a 21-year-old driver and a 30-year-old passenger from McKinleyville, died at the scene.
