Nico Hoerner had never been much of a threat to steal a base, even in college. Now the Chicago Cubs second baseman is someone opposing teams must keep an eye on.With his swipe of second base in the fourth inning of Wednesday’s loss at Coors Field, Hoerner stole his 40th base of the season, something a Cub hadn’t done since Juan Pierre in 2006. The last Cubs second baseman to do it was Eric Young Sr. in 2000.Hoerner has displayed a rare combination of base stealing and run production. He is only the fifth Cubs player since 1901 to record at least 40 stolen bases and 60 RBIs and the first since Ryne Sandberg in 1985 (54 stolen bases and 83 RBIs). The others are Frank Chance (1903 and 1906), George Grantham (1923) and Kiki Culver (1929).“If you had told me I’d steal 40 bases in the big leagues a couple years ago, I probably wouldn’t really be pretty fired up,” Hoerner said. “It’s not something that I’ve always done at a super-high le...Two Chuze Fitness locations notify members about potential tuberculosis exposure

SAN DIEGO -- Dozens of people explored new job opportunities at the Central Library in the East Village, where the City of San Diego hosted its first-ever career fair for immigrants and refugees.Riley Minkoff with the Office of Immigrant Affairs says they planned the event for months, and the idea came from a need to fill vacancies at the city.“A lot of the immigrants and refugees in San Diego come with these backgrounds where they have other degrees or experience in their home country. At the city, we are trying to give them a place where they can utilize those advanced degrees, get re-credentialed, get accredited and then fill a lot of the vacant positions we have the city right now and get a really good stable job here in San Diego," said Minkoff.Minkoff said the city wanted to cater a career fair to immigrants and refugees because of the added challenges they face finding work.Anna Kopelzon and her family are starting a new life in San Diego, arriving less than two weeks ago fro...Disneyland must accommodate noise, other environmental impacts before building new attractions

LAS VEGAS (AP) — A persistent error message greeted Dulce Martinez on Monday as she tried to access her casino rewards account to book accommodations for an upcoming business trip. That’s odd, she thought, then toggled over to Facebook to search for clues about the issue on a group for MGM Resorts International loyalty members. There, she learned that the largest casino owner in Las Vegas had fallen victim to a cybersecurity breach.Martinez, 45, immediately checked her bank statements for the credit card linked to her loyalty account. Now she was being greeted by four new transactions she did not recognize — charges that she said increased with each transaction, from $9.99 to $46. She canceled the credit card.Unsettled by the thought of what other information the hackers may have stolen, Martinez, a publicist from Los Angeles, said she signed up for a credit report monitoring program, which will cost her $20 monthly.“It’s been kind of an issue for me,” she said, “but I’m now mo...Latest news
