US futures tick down, regional bank stocks still sliding

BEIJING — Wall Street drifted lower before the bell Thursday, even as European shares got a boost after Credit Suisse said it would borrow up to $54 billion from Switzerland’s central bank to shore up its finances, possibly easing worries about a bank crisis following the failure of two U.S. lenders.Futures for the Dow Jones Industrial Average were off 0.3% before the bell and futures for the S&P 500 dipped 0.1%.Credit Suisse’s shares soared 30% on Thursday after it announced the loan, bolstering confidence as fears about the banking system moved from the U.S. to Europe.It was a massive swing from a day earlier, when shares of Switzerland’s second-largest commercial bank plunged 30% on the SIX stock exchange after its biggest shareholder said it would not put more money into Credit Suisse.That dragged down other European banks after the collapse of some U.S. banks stirred fears about the health of global banks. TORONTO — Aimia Inc. reported a $23.3 million net loss in its most recent quarter, a period that preceded two manufacturing acquisitions.The Toronto-based holding company says its fourth quarter results compared with a net loss of $14.6 million in the same period the year before.The company says its basic loss per common share for the three months ended Dec. 31 amounted to 32 cents per share compared with 19 cents per share a year ago.Highlights of Aimia’s quarter include its January announcement revealing it will purchase ropes and netting manufacturer Tufropes Pvt Ltd. for $252.6 million. CHICAGO — The 25th alderman plans to lead a group of vendors to Novak Construction, demanding a new agreement is made to avoid them from being evicted from the discount mall. Sources told WGN there will be 70 vehicles apart of the caravan and it will include street vendors as well as those who rent from the discount mall in Little Village.In February, some vendors were given until March 26th to move out of the mall. Vendors day they were told by P K Mall management to liquidate their merchandise after a proposed rent increase in the lease renewal offer was found to be unreasonable and unsustainable. (KTLA) – Just a day after officials in Orange County, California, declared a local state of emergency, residents of four residential structures in San Clemente were forced to evacuate after the collapse of a hillside at the rear of the properties. RUTLAND, Vt. (NEWS10) -- Vermont State Police have arrested a man from Staten Island in connection to the 2022 homicide of Jonathan Naranjo. Trayvon Kisling, 18, faces several charges including first-degree murder. Get all of the latest news, weather, sports, and entertainment delivered right to your inbox! Naranjo died on Monday, November 7, 2022, after a reported shooting and car crash. Rutland City Police were alerted to the crash at about 4:15 p.m., followed by a second call reporting a shooting in the area. Police found Naranjo dead with a car involved in the crash. Following a lengthy investigation, police say they identified Kisling as the shooter. Investigators say they learned earlier this month they learned Kisling was likely in Vermont. Police obtained an arrest warrant for Kisling and found him inside a car at a Shell gas station in Brandon, Vermont, on Wednesday.
