WASHINGTON (AP) — Sidney Crosby scored twice on the power play, Evgeni Malkin had a goal and three assists and the Pittsburgh Penguins beat the rival Washington Capitals 4-0 Friday night for their first win of the season.Crosby’s first goal came while he was falling in front of the net, and his second was a one-timer off a pass from Malkin, who opened the scoring with a shot past Charlie Lindgren. Offseason acquisition Erik Karlsson made the play to keep the puck in at the blue line to set up Malkin’s goal.At the other end of the ice later in the second period, Tristan Jarry stopped Alex Ovechkin on a breakaway, one of his 19 saves for the shutout. Malkin also assisted on Reilly Smith’s goal in the third that made it 4-0 and gave him a four-point night. The play of their longtime franchise cornerstones, newest addition and No. 1 goaltender helped the Penguins bounce back from a season-opening 4-2 loss to Chicago earlier in the week. They also spoiled the debut of new...Fury, sadness and solidarity at ‘Stand with Israel’ rally in DC

BROCKTON – In a matchup of strong Catholic Central opponents, it was the Bishop Feehan defense that came out on top on the road Friday. With five sacks and five forced turnovers, Bishop Feehan was able to shut out a potent Cardinal Spellman offense 24-0 at Potvin Field.“We have a tremendous amount of respect for Spellman,” said Bishop Feehan coach Bryan Pinabell. “They are a very well-coached team. They do a lot of good things on offense and going into it I knew we would need to have our best defensive game of the year.”The defense answered that call as they pressured Cardinal Spellman’s offensive line all game, including two sacks each for junior Reid Clemente and senior captain Sean Judge.“Judge is a big part of that, but so is Reid,” Pinabell said about the playmaking ability of his defense. “A lot of the sacks that were caused, Reid does not get credit for his pressure. AMESBURY – It was Senior Night in Amesbury as the Redhawks took the field at Landry Stadium against Lynnfield in a huge CAL Small showdown of unbeatens, but it was a junior quarterback from the other sideline who stole the show.Pioneers quarterback Tyler Adamo threw for two touchdowns, both to Joey Cucciniello, and scampered for 24 yards for another as Lynnfield (6-0) stayed perfect with an impressive 24-14 win over Amesbury (4-1). Adamo and the Pioneers were well aware that all roads to a CAL title would have to go through a very physical Amesbury team which had won the last two crowns.“There were a lot of guys picking us to lose this game saying that you have to dethrone the king and we kind of took that personally,” said Adamo, who hit his favorite target with a pair of darts from 26 and 24 yards, respectively, while rolling out of the pocket.“It was kind of like a broken play and Joey came free in the back of the end zone,” said Adamo of the first score. “And the next play it wa...Latest news
