ST. LOUIS - More than six million people call the Show Me State home, but not everyone agrees with how to pronounce their home state's name. There are two common variations in how residents pronounce Missouri: "Missour-ee" and "Missour-uh." Determining the proper pronunciation of Missouri has stumped linguists and historians for years. But new research conducted on behalf of St. Louis University says there's one version you're more likely to hear in conversation. DoorDash driver caught on doorbell camera swiping delivery According to data from a recently published SLU/YouGov Poll, more than 90 percent of Missourians are likely to pronounce their state as "Missour-ee," and less than 10 percent are likely to pronounce their state as "Missour-uh." The findings are based on interviews with around 900 likely Missouri voters who were asked how they pronounced their home state. They were ultimately asked to select from one of two recordings, one with emphasis on an "EE" sound at the end...First-of-its-kind hiking permit may be required in Colorado’s gorgeous Blue Lakes

The Blue Lakes, located in the San Juan Mountains between Telluride and Ouray, have become an international destination for hikers and mountaineers seeking to enjoy the Instagram-worthy alpine lakes and scale Mount Sneffels’ 14,150-foot summit. In fact, they’ve become so popular over the last decade that the United States Forest Service is proposing a plan to limit the number of visitors who can go to the lakes each summer, in hopes of reducing the environmental impact of recreation. The plan, unveiled Tuesday, would require not only that overnight campers secure permits May through September, but daytime hikers as well. The day-use permit would be the first of its kind instituted in a national forest in Colorado, said Dana Gardunio of the federal agency’s Ouray Ranger District.Other strategies to curtail damage to the plants and wildlife habitat caused by visitation include banning camping above treeline, eliminating dispersed camping near the Blue Lakes trailhead, and re...Global support for imprisoned Kurdish leader and peaceful solution to the Kurdish question

He has been imprisoned for 24 years on the remote island of Imrali in the Bosporus Sea where he has been subjected to severe torture and neglect. A North Carolina family is upset after their loved one’s body was mistaken for a Halloween decoration and left outside for days. Robert Owens’ body was found in China Grove. His family discovered that a lawncare worker mowed around his near-naked body, thinking it was a prop. A day later, someone else made the gruesome discovery.“Don't know how you can do that,” said Owens’ sister, Haley Shue. “Mow right beside someone and assume that they're Halloween decorations at a house no one lives at.”Robert Owens (Haley Shue & Brenda Bostian)The last time the family saw Owens was Sunday, Oct. 1. It wasn't until a week later that police found him down a long driveway off of Shue Road in China Grove.
