The family of an unarmed man who was fatally shot by Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies is demanding a new investigation and other changes nearly two years after his death.Frederick Holder, 28, was shot and killed in Norwalk on June 23, 2021.Deputies responded to a reckless driver near the intersection of Alondra Boulevard and Piuma Avenue. The city of Berkeley has a people problem.Between 2018 and 2022, more people voluntarily left city employment than were hired, and the citywide vacancy rate of 19% was the second highest in the Bay Area last year, according to a new report from City Auditor Jenny Wong.Vallejo claimed the top spot with a 28% vacancy rate, while Oakland and Richmond tied for third with 16% vacancy. OAKLAND — A three-time felon has been charged with murder in the fatal shooting Saturday morning in East Oakland of another man following a dispute of some kind, according to authorities and court documents.Jose Estrada-Avalos, 38, was charged Wednesday in the killing of Santos Pablo-Ramirez, 21, who was shot dead at about 3:04 a.m. Saturday in the 2100 block of 39th Avenue.Besides the murder count, he is also charged with shooting from a motor vehicle and two counts of felon in possession of a firearm. The charges include numerous enhancements, including that Estrada-Avalos was on probation at the time of the killing.
