Poland’s opposition leader says coalition has votes to unseat ruling party By Monika Scislowska and Vanessa Gera | Associated PressWARSAW, Poland — Polish opposition leader Donald Tusk said that three opposition parties had sufficient votes to win the general election on Sunday after an exit poll projected that they had enough combined support to oust Law and Justice, the governing conservative nationalist party. The Ipsos exit poll suggested that the opposition together has likely won 248 seats in the 460-seat lower house of parliament, the Sejm. Law and Justice, according to the projection, obtained 200 seats, while the far-right Confederation got 12 seats.“I am the happiest man on earth,” Tusk said. “Democracy has won. Colts QB Gardner Minshew delivers a turnover-filled folly in his return to Jacksonville JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) — Gardner Minshew’s return to Jacksonville was a turnover-filled folly, a much different version of “Minshew Mania.”Minshew lost a fumble and threw three interceptions in his first game back in Jacksonville since the Jaguars traded him just before the 2021 season. Minshew’s miscues were critical in Indianapolis’ 37-20 loss to the Jaguars on Sunday.“At the end of the day, I was careless with the ball,” Minshew said. “I didn’t do a good enough job taking care of it. I put our team in a really bad spot, and it’s not fair to the rest of the guys. So I’m really going to look at those, hold myself accountable.“We’re not going to tuck our tail. We’re not going to drop our chin. We’re just going to keep rushing through and learn from it and we’ll come out the other side better.”With rookie Anthony Richardson spraining his throwing shoulder and landing on injured reserve last week, the Colts turned to Minshew for at least the next month — maybe longer. It just so happ...

Chicago Bears QB Justin Fields leaves loss to Vikings with right hand injury CHICAGO (AP) — Justin Fields had a towel over his right hand as he walked to the locker room in the second half. His day was over. What happens next could have a dramatic effect on the future of the Chicago Bears.Fields left Sunday’s 19-13 loss to the Minnesota Vikings with a hand injury. The third-year quarterback got an X-ray that was negative.“We’ll see where it is tomorrow when we get the MRI,” Chicago coach Matt Eberflus said. “That’s all I know right now.”Fields got hurt with about 10 1/2 minutes left in the third quarter. He tried to throw the ball away on a sack by Danielle Hunter, and it looked as if he might have landed awkwardly on his hand as he went down.Chicago (1-5) punted on the next play, and Tyson Bagent was behind center when the Bears got the ball back.Fields went 6 for 10 for 58 yards and threw an interception before he departed. He also had eight carries for 46 yards and was sacked four times.“With him, he wanted to come back in the game,” Eber...

Seahawks lament wasted chances in the red zone in a 17-13 loss to the Bengals

Seahawks lament wasted chances in the red zone in a 17-13 loss to the Bengals CINCINNATI (AP) — The Seattle Seahawks failed to take advantage of two late scoring opportunities in a frustrating 17-13 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday. Four times in the second half, Geno Smith took the Seahawks into the red zone and came out of it with just a field goal.“All the red zone stuff is where they got us, where we needed touchdowns,” Seattle coach Pete Carroll said. “Our numbers will look bad in the red zone, but we were so close to winning that football game.”The Bengals defense intercepted Smith twice in the second half. The Bengals also twice stopped the Seahawks on fourth down from inside the Cincinnati 10 in the last 2:08 of the game to preserve the win. “It stings a lot more just because we couldn’t finish a couple times,” receiver Jake Bobo said. “It hurts a little but more, because our defense played the way they did. So we wanted to get it done for those guys.”The Bengals offense wasn’t great, either. After quarterback Joe Burrow threw two ...

Kyle Larson earns spot in NASCAR’s championship race with victory at Las Vegas LAS VEGAS (AP) — Kyle Larson edged Christopher Bell at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway finish line to become the first driver locked into NASCAR’s championship race. The 2021 Cup champion earned the first of four spots in the Nov. 5 title-deciding finale with his win in Sunday’s opening race of the round of eight of NASCAR’s playoffs. “This is really cool to get to race in the championship in a few weeks,” said Larson.“Glad we don’t need to stress in the last two races.” Larson claimed the lead on pit road when his Hendrick Motorsports crew had the fastest stop following a caution with 57 laps remaining. Bell had control of the race at that point, but the leaders went in for a service stop, and Larson in his Chevrolet was first off pit road. Bell, who started on the pole in a Toyota for Joe Gibbs Racing, was third after the pit stop. Passing seemed particularly difficult Sunday at Las Vegas, and Bell was sort of stuck following Larson for the rest of the race. But he ...

Young, Panthers show flashes of potential but remain winless after 42-21 loss at Miami MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (AP) — After the Miami Dolphins beat the Carolina Panthers on Sunday, Tua Tagovailoa found Panthers quarterback Bryce Young, embraced him and shared a few encouraging words as the No. 1 overall pick seeks the first win of his NFL career. “It’s a conversation that I felt like if I was on the other side of the ball, I would want someone to tell me,” Tagovailoa said. “I think he’s doing a tremendous job. There’s going to be times where you’re going to make mistakes because you’re a rookie, and there’s things that, when he plays the next game, that he’d wish he knew this game. He’ll continue to grow from that.”Young and the Panthers (0-6) showed flashes of potential in a 42-21 loss to the Dolphins, though. Carolina put together back-to-back touchdown drives to open the game and forced two three-and-outs against the NFL’s No. 1 offense to take an early two-score lead. Young completed six of his first seven passes a...

France’s star backs flop as they lose to South Africa in Rugby World Cup quarterfinals PARIS (AP) — France’s star backs were supposed to lead the tournament favorite past defending champion South Africa and into the Rugby World Cup semifinals. They flopped as South Africa won 29-28 in a cliffhanger on Sunday.Right winger Damian Penaud was on a career-best seven-match try-scoring run and topped the tournament with six tries.Fullback Thomas Ramos was the leading point-scorer and had hardly missed a kick.Talismanic captain Antoine Dupont came back from a tournament-threatening injury to line up alongside the silky Matthieu Jalibert. It wasn’t their night at Stade de France.Penaud was far from the lethal finisher who terrified defenders, Ramos was careless enough not to see Cheslin Kolbe coming at him and charge down a conversion attempt, a rare event. Those wasted two points came with the score at 12-12 and proved vital in a one-point contest. Dupont looked rusty and made errors, too. He had never lost his 14 previous tests at home as captain. Jalibert went off...
